South Shore Hospital in Weymouth has received a donation of much-needed masks, gloves and gowns from the veterinary technology program at the UMass Amherst Mount Ida Campus.

Kim Litif, animal facilities and lab supervisor, delivered the items on Wednesday, April 1 to help in the fight against COVID-19, comprising eight large boxes of personal protective equipment (PPE) gathered from the facilities in the Veterinary Technology Building in Newton. They included disposable gowns, surgical masks and a handful of N95 masks, all of which South Shore Hospital has requested via community donation.

鈥淭hough we had only a limited supply on hand, this small hospital was incredibly thankful for the donation as they are in dire need of PPE for their staff,鈥 said Amy Rubin, director of the Veterinary Technology Program. 鈥淲e were all proud that we were able to help in this way.鈥
